Bael

Michael James Bell is a contemporary artist who goes under the alias 'Bael'. He lives and works in the North East of England. His unique visual style plays with beauty and the human form; it is raw, energetic and tense. Bael works with a range of mediums and techniques, favouring inks and line drawing. The immediacy of this approach enables him to produce works that pack an emotional response with minimal distraction. His work is honest, haunting and simplistically complex.

"My work is about capturing human emotion and form with a sense of simplicity - to express something complex in as few words as possible".

Bael is self taught. He is heavily influenced by German Expressionism, Art Nouveau and Japanese Anime. Stark and haunting figures and monochromatic tones dominate his current practice.
