York artist, Matthew Shelton works predominantly with stencils and aerosol. Using multi-layer stencils his work is both illustrative yet realistic in scale and style. All his subjects derive from his unique photography taken from international travels. Whilst he has always worked publicly in deprived areas within York, he is now beginning to place his art on various different surfaces and objects. The image titled 'Just a little love’ captures a young girl on a beach in Bali playing in the sand. The artwork narrates a deprived fishing community he met in Bali.
Matthew is also beginning a new venture of a lifestyle brand under his street name MIRLO. The brand will feature historic restored french seating paired up with modern prints. Using traditional upholstery techniques pieces will be transformed using MIRLO’S art printed on luxury velvets and linens. These will be further embellished with embroidery to create bespoke textile pieces of street art, in the form of unique french furniture. The lifestyle brand for furniture, art, and ceramics will be launched this summer under the name MIRLO Made in England.
